20 Aug Hazelton, BC installs REALice at their Brand New Arena
Hazelton, BC, August 2019 – The brand new Upper Skeena Recreation Centre in Hazelton, BC, owned by the Regional District of Kitimat Stikine and scheduled to open early September, has just received their REALice system.
Installing REALice is easy and will take a certified plumber 1 – 2 hours to ensure that all water needed to make ice will go through the system.
Arena operators will be able to make fantastic ice and use unheated water to build and maintain their ice sheet instead of extremely hot water at 160° Fahrenheit.
Because the REALice treated water is denser and freezes faster, the brine temperature / set points will have to be reset 3°- 5° Fahrenheit warmer.
This is an additional benefit on top of the hot water cost savings. Each degree Fahrenheit that the ice can be kept less cold equals approximately 20,000 kWh in electricity savings.
The REALice installation at the Upper Skeena Recreation Centre will be the third for the Regional District of Kitimat. The Kitimat Arena and the Tamitik Jubilee Sports Complex both have been equipped in 2017.
