The team at Lake Placid didn’t believe REALice would make much difference. They took road trips, called other rinks and asked for hard data before they bought. Three seasons later, the results from their sliding track and the historic ’32 and ’80 rinks are the strongest we have.

From skeptic to advocate

Before buying, the Lake Placid team visited other REALice rinks, called operators, and asked for measured results rather than testimonials. The rollout was phased: the sliding track first, then the indoor rinks at the Olympic Center.

What changed on the ice

The ice recovers faster between heavy competitions, floods and deep shaves. Inside the Olympic Center it got progressively better, easier to maintain and more energy-efficient. On the outdoor oval, twelve records fell in eighteen months; skaters who are famously particular about ice conditions rate it higher than before.
