20 Apr 5 ways to support your team while making the switch to REALice
Getting everybody on board with change is challenging.
Here are 5 ways to support your team while making the switch to REALice:
1.) Install a mixing valve. This allows for occasional tempered water and people will be reassured that warmer water is available, if ever needed. If you want to go the extra mile, get a digital mixing valve where the temperature can only be changed with the supervisors access code.
2.) Encourage ice techs to talk to peers who have already made the switch.

3.) Challenge your crew to prove the application wrong (without violating best practices i.e. by-passing or trickle filling).
4.) Take the big league approach: Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY and the Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale, NY both home to the NY Islanders have set their resurfacing temperature at 100F to start. Observe and then lower the temperature bit by bit. This slows down the transition and may help staff who are hesitant to embrace change or who resist new technology.
5.) Distribute and discuss our updated 2020 training manual with your staff.
And if you really can’t get buy-in, then try renting a system for a season first. This allows the operations team to get their hands on it before a permanent commitment.
