Uxbridge saves money and reduces C02 emissions with a new way of flooding ice rinks
The Township of Uxbridge was able to reduce its annual CO2 emissions substantially just by making one small change.
The town stopped its reliance on hot water to maintain its two ice surfaces at the Uxbridge Arena and Recreation Centre, and instead, installed a mechanical de-aerator to flood with tap-temperature water.
By doing so, Uxbridge has reduced energy costs, and lowered CO2 emissions substantially — and its operations team is still able to provide great quality ice for its user groups.
